HISP India is primarily the project implementation arm of the University of Oslo, and they are thus a primary collaborator. The collaboration involves various facets including: 1. Software development and sharing; 2. An empirical site for Doctoral and Masters research; 3. Funding support; 4. Expert advice from Oslo faculty and other researchers; and, 5. Links to the broader HISP global network. In India, HISP India has formal collaborations to two institutions through MOUs signed between Oslo and Sri Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, and Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, both located in Trivandrum, Kerala. While Sri Chitra has been an important partner in the development of public health expertise and local understanding of public health issues in Kerala, the other institutional collaboration is primarily to support the software development activities. In the various states that HISP India is working, they have formal MOUs with the State Health Departments. These include or have included: Kerala, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan. Being part of the global HISP network, HISP India has implied collaborations with a number of partners in the global network including: HISP South Africa; University of Pretoria, South Africa; Addis Ababa University and HISP Ethiopia, Ethiopia; Universidade Eduardo Mondlane, Mozambique; University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, HISP Tanzania, and many others. The strategic aim for HISP India is to strengthen these south-south collaborations, especially in the following areas: 1. Joint software development and sharing of software and expertise. This is already taking place with HISP Vietnam and Ethiopia. 2. Collaborative research activities to conduct cross-country research and this is already ongoing with Ethiopia, Vietnam and South Africa. 3. Sharing of training material. 4. Circulation of people and ideas across countries. In addition, HISP India having received funding from various international agencies (in addition to, from the Indian state health departments), are partners with UNAIDS, EU, Norwegian Research Council, and NORAD. HISP SA is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation run by a Board of Directors drawn mainly from the public health sector and academia.
